The Grand Trunk (GT) Road, which connects Rawat with Kutchery Chowk in Islamabad, has just undergone a significant renaming by the National Highway Authority (NHA) of Pakistan.

The part of G.T. Road from Rawat, T-Chowk to Kutchery Chowk will henceforth be known as “Potohar Avenue,” according to a statement from NHA.

The area where the road is located inspired the new name, Potohar Avenue. The northern Pakistani mountainous region of Potohar encompasses portions of the provinces of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu, and Kashmir.

The new name strives to showcase this region’s distinctive identity and rich history and cultural heritage.

The NHA took a decision by renaming this section of G.T. Road since it connects Rawalpindi to a number of important cities, including Lahore and Peshawar, and is one of the busiest routes in the region.

The new name, Potohar Avenue, will aid in the promotion of the region’s cultural identity as well as the development of the area’s own unique personality.

The Commissioner of Rawalpindi presided over a meeting in Rawalpindi to examine the development work on Potohar Avenue. He claimed that the name change will highlight and add a cultural element to this section of the road.

The Commissioner also mentioned the peri-urban union councils of Rawalpindi City and made it clear that the Rawalpindi District Administration Control will henceforth be in charge of the region from the Soan River Bridge to the Toyota Showroom.

He also provided updates on the anti-encroachment campaign, which began on February 24. The first stage of the process involves the government fining people.

Fines totaling PKR 700,000 have already been imposed in various parts of the city.
